Junior football league match - 27/02/2018

Randals and Ilen Rovers met in the second round of the junior B football league on Sunday evening last, 25th February,  This was a home game for Ilen, played in Rath, on a pitch which was in excellent condition. Weather was dry but there was a cold swirling wind which reportedly was coming from Siberia.

Ilen were quick off the mark and launched a number of early attacks, which were repulsed, before they got through for the opening score, a goal after about five minutes.

Seadhna Crowley, from  a free, opened Randals' account, but Ilen replied with a similar score within minutes.

A great goal, finished off by Donncha Collins, around the twenty minute mark saw the sides level at 1-1 all.

Ilen regained their lead from a free, got through for their second goal, and stretched their advantage with another pointed free.

Seadhna Crowley and Sam Kingston sent over from frees but Ilen hit back with the last score of the half too leave it;  Ilen Rovers  2-4  Randal Og  1-3 .

It was a well contested second half, but unfortunately it was due to end in disappointment.

An early point from Sam Kingston was replied to by Ilen. Randals upped their game again and two points from Seadhna Crowley and another from Owen O'Sullivan left just two between them,  2-5 to  1-6.

Into the third quarter and Ilen increased their lead again.

Barry O'Driscoll sent over from play and Seadhan Crowley was on target for three more. It was 1-10 to 2-6 going into the closing stages.

Ilen, from a free, levelled the scores again and then, from another free, with what was literally the last kick of the game, they scored the winner.
