Junior hurling championship - Randals v Castletownroche - 2019-07-24 20:58:00

It was back to Inniscarra on Sunday last, this time for the county junior hurling quarter-final against Castletwnroche.

The weather, overcast with showery rain, particularly in the second half, did not help matters, but it was a close game, with little between the teams for most of the hour, until the closing stages.

Castletownroche were first to score, with a point from a free, in the second minute and they got the first goal of the game a minute later, a goal that was the main difference between the teams on the scoreboard, for the remainder of the first half.

Points from Seadhna Crowley and Johnny Collins reduced the lead but Castletownroche replied with two more.

Johnny Collins, from a free, and Patrick Crowley made it it two between them again.

Castletownroche sent over from a sixty five, Johnny Collins scored again form a free and it was 1-4 to 0-5,  with fifteen minutes gone

It was point for point for the remainder of the half, with Johnny Collins, Eoin O'Donovan, Cathal Duggan and Seadhna Crowley on target for Randals,

Castletownroche led  1-7 to 0-9 at half time

The third quarter belonged to Randals. Thirty three minutes saw Seadhna Crowley making connection with a high ball from Cathal Duggan to score a great goal. Points from Johnny Collins and Seadhna Crowley  followed to make it 1-11 to 1-7, a four point lead, with forty three minutes gone.

Unfortunately that was as good as it got, as Castletownroche came back strongly to score seven points without reply and then got a second goal to make it 2-14 to 1-11 with about three minutes of ordinary time left.

A goal by Sam Kingston,  a minute later, rose hopes but another was needed and it did not come.

Castletownroche closed the scoring with a point in injury time and it was  : Castletownroche 2-15  Randal Og 2-11  at the final whistle.
