Hurling championship - Randals v Araglen - 2018-07-11 11:43:00

It was back to Donoughmore on Sunday last, for hurling championship quarter-final, a first ever meeting with Araglen.

A well contested game overall, with either side on top at various stages.

Randals got off to a good start, with the first score of the game coming from Eoin O'Donovan, a point after two minutes, and another from Patrick Crowley a minute later. Eoin sent over a long distance free to put Randals three up.

Araglen opened their account with a point after eight minutes and they followed up with four more, two from play, two from frees, to go into a 0-5 to 0-3 lead after about seventeen minutes.

The game changed dramatically in the second quarter with Randals coming strongly to build up a significant half time lead.

Two points from Eoin O'Donovan made it all square with twenty minutes gone. Seamus Crowley followed up with another to give Randals a lead which was never relinquished, even though it looked in danger later in the game.

Seamus Crowley, again, and Patrick Crowley stretched the lead, Araglen getting one back from a free after twenty five minutes.

Randals were dominant coming up to half time. Eoin O'Sullivan restored a three point lead on twenty eight minutes and then came a crucial score as Donncha Collins hit home the first goal a minute later.

Two more points from Patrick Crowley and Randals went in at half time with a 1-11 to 0-6  lead.

A shock start to the second half, as Araglen, gaining possession from the throw in, had the ball in the Randals net seconds later. They added a point within a minute and it was 1-11 to 1-7.

It was score for score over the next ten minutes, as Araglen fought to reduce their deficit further. A point from Seadhna Crowley and two from Eoin O'Donovan came in that period, but Araglen replied in like manner, scoring four in between, and it was 1-14 to 1-11 with less than twenty minutes left.

Randals were dominant in the closing stages, with Johnny Collins now controlling matters up front. Eoin O'Donovan stretched the lead further with two points from frees. Kevin Dullea came on and scored a point from  his first touch of the ball. Seadhna Crowley made it 1-18 to 1-11 as full time approached.

Scores were exchanged again during the closing minutes. Conor O'Donovan made it 1-19  and Eoin O'Donovan had the last score from a free in stoppage time.

The full time score :  Randal Og  1-20   Araglen  1-13.
