Under 21 football championship: Randals v Muintir Bhaire. - 2018-04-16 17:17:00

The under 21 football championship quarter-final versus Muintir Bhaire was played at Drimoleague on Saturday evening last, 14th April. Threatened rain did not come during the game but it was dull and overcast with a cold swirling wind, more akin to late January than mid April and which did not help scoring efforts early in the game

Muintir Bhaire came under continual  pressure from Randals early on, but they were first to score, a point after five minutes.

Eoin O'Sullivan opened Randals' account with a point from a free and Cian O'Neill added another a minute later. Muintir Bhaire replied with two more to regain the lead but then came the first goal of the game, finished off by Eoin O'Sullivan after fourteen minutes.

Muintir Bhaire sent over their fourth point to leave the minimum between them, 1-2 to 0-4, at the end of the first quarter.

Martin Murphy was next on target, with a point on seventeen minutes. Another from Muintir Bhaire restored the margin - still nothing to indicate how this game was going to end.

Then on the twenty sixth minute, there  came what was probably a game changing moment when Muintir Bhaire were almost through for a goal, but were denied by a point blank save from Ciaran Murray.

A goal did come shortly after, but it was at the other end when Cathal Duggan chased a breaking ball across the goalmouth to make it 2-4 to 0-5.

Muintir Bhaire and Conor O'Neill swapped points before half time - 2-5 to  0-6.

Conor O'Neill stretched Randals' lead within two minutes of resumption. Shortly after Muintir Bhaire were again almost through for a goal but again were  denied when the ball was cleared off the line.

Randals defence were now well in control and no more such chances were allowed.

At the other end Eoin O'Sullivan was making his presence felt, first with a point from play, then with another from a free at an almost impossible angle and when Muintir Bhaire conceded a penalty, he shot straight and true to the back of the net.

Muintir Bhaire scored points in the thirteenth and fourteenth minutes and it was 3-8 to 0-8 going into final quarter, game not won yet.

However Conor O'Neill and Donncha Collins stretched the lead further, and all  doubts disappeared when super sub, Ronan Daly, crashed home goal number four in the twenty first minute.

Three more scores before the end, a point from Daniel O'Sullivan, another from Ronan Daly who also scored his second goal close to the final whistle.
