Randal Og v Whites Cross - 2017-06-03 20:22:00

A controversial very late goal was the decisive score in the county junior hurling championship quarter-final between Randal Og and Whites Cross played at Brinny on Friday evening, 2nd June.

This was a game which started well for Randals. The first score came from a free , sent over by Seadhna Crowley, following a foul on Kevin Dullea in the second minute. He scored again from a free some five minutes later and Brian Dullea made it three up after eight minutes.

Seadhna came again with a great point from play coming up to the tenth  minute, to make it 0-4 to 0-0. Following a few stoppages for injuries, Whites Cross came more into the game and they got their first score, a point , shortly after.  Then came the first killer blow as they got through for a goal at the start of the second quarter.

Another free, another point, from Seadha Crowley, but Whites Cross got that one back before he added another close to half time,

Half time score:  Randal Og  0-6  Whites Cross  1-2.

Seadhna increased Randals' lead with a point early in the second half but there followed a period of Whites Cross supremacy as they scored four points without reply over the next fifteen minutes. Another pointed free by Seadhna Crowley, around the twenty second minute, left just one between them.

Patrick Crowley sent over the equaliser to make it 0-9 to 1-6 .

Twenty five minutes gone and Whites Cross regained the lead from another free but once again Seadhna Crowley was on target as he sent over his eighth point.

It was 1-7 to 0-10 going into injury time as both sides fought for a winning score. Whites  Cross it was who launched the last assault and in a crowded goalmouth the ball crossed the line for what was deemed the winning score.

Despite being disputed the decision stood. Patrick Lynch's puck out coincided with the final whistle.

Full time score: Whites Cross 2-7  Randal Og 0-10.
