Well done to the hurlers who achieved a great victory against Argideen Rangers in the junior championship replay in Clonakilty on Friday evening, 22nd July.
This was a game to remember with scores coming thick and fast, especially in the first half and it finished in a late burst of goal scoring before Randals emerged victorious by two points.
Argideen started strongly and they led narrowly for most of the first half. They scored four points in the opening five minutes and were ahead by that margin when Gerard Lynch had Randals' first score in the sixth minute.
Argideen restored their lead with a point from a free but Brian Dullea, Gavin Hunt, Conor O'Donovan and Patrick Crowley had a succession of points to leave it all square coming up the fifteen minute mark. Argideen went in front again and even though Conor O'Donovan levelled matters again they had they had recovered their four point lead by the twenty second minute - 0-10 to 0-6.
Gavin Hunt, from a free, reduced this to three and Gerard Lynch, from long range, reduced it further. There was an exchange of scores coming up to half time with Johnny Collins, Patrick Crowley and Johnny Collins, again, on target and it was 0-12 to 0-11 at the break.
A minute into the second half Patrick Crowley sent over the equaliser. A great save by Patrick Lynch prevented what looked like a certain Argideen goal a minute later. Patrick Crowley added another point in the thirty seventh minute but Argideen had picked off a few in between and they were three points ahead again nearing the end of the third quarter.
Johnny Collins scored from a free after forty four minutes. Patrick Crowley again, two minutes later, reduced the margin to one point.
Argideen came again to score what was their last point. It was 0-17 to 0-15 with a little over ten minutes to go.
A point from a free and another from play by Johnny Collins made it level scores for the fourth time and then the goals started coming.
Shane Patterson scored the first. Sam Kingston got the second a minute or so later and then came another Patrick Crowley point. Randals were ahead, 2-18 to 0-17, with about four minutes to go.
Argideen were not finished yet. A ball came across the square to be finished to Randalsâ net. A minute later they got through for another goal - 2-18 to 2-17.
Argideen launched another attack but the defence held and the clearance reached Johnny Collins who off the scoring with a spectacular point
Full time score Randal Og 2-19 Argideen Rangers 2-17.
