We had a disappointing result in the under 21 C hurling championship final against St. James', Ardfield which was played in Rossmore on Friday evening.. 25th August, although the opening minutes of the game could have indicated a different result.
The Ardfield boys were first to score - a point within a minute of the throw in. Gavin Hunt's equaliser came quickly and then on the five minute mark we had a scoring chance which on another day would have yielded a goal.
Two well taken points from Donnacha Collins made it 0-3 to 0-1 wth almost ten minutes gone.
An Ardfield point was followed by a goal, which was game changing score, giving them a lead of 1-2 to 0-3. It was a lead that they never lost. A brilliant save by Ted Nyhan deprived them of a second goal around the twenty minute mark but it came a few minutes from half time.
The half time score was St. James' 2-9 Randal Og 0-5. Owen O'Sullivan, from a sixty five and Gavin Hunt had scored for Randals.
It was a low scoring third quarter. Two points from Gavin Hunt and two Ardfield scores left it with the same margin as at half time, 2-11 to 0-7.
A succession of Ardfield points in the last quarter saw them increase their lead again and a third goal came late in the game.
It was : St. James' 3-18 Randal Og 0-9 at full time.
