UNDER TWENTY ONE HURLING

Our under twenty one hurlers lined against St. James' of Ardfield on Saturday evening last at Clonakilty. It was played in perfect conditions with little between the teams in the opening quarter. The Ardfield boys were first to score and they had three points on the board early on but then came an equalising goal from Kieran Collins. An outstanding save by Ted Nyhan in the tenth minute deprived Ardfield of their goal chance but they were quickly back for a point to regain the lead.

Conor O'Donovan got Randals' first point after fourteen minutes but Ardfield again replied straightaway with a series of points and then a goal to go into a significant lead.

Coming up to half time Gavin Hunt and Padraic Galvin reduced their lead with three points in quick succession but it was 1-10 to 1-14 at the break.

Gavin Hunt was on the mark again with two points early in the second half but it was all Ardfield for most of the remaining period. Apart from that, we had three goal scoring chances which came very close but did not go in.

With twenty eight minutes gone Gavin Hunt took a twenty metre free, he was facing a lined goalmouth but found the net. Ardfield scored their second goal within a minute but Mark Shanahan had the last word with Randals' third goal.
